New leaves

Having repotted Smeagol’s acer last November, we have been keen to see the first leaves appear this year. They just started to show last month and now they are out in full bloom! The tree is one year old this month... well one year old from when we got it.. I will have to ask Sarah how old it actually is.

Smeagol’s ashes have obviously been good for the tree. We decided to repot the acer rather than plant it in the ground, just in case we should move house. When we left Yorkshire in 2008 to move to Scotland, we had to leave behind a lovely acer that was a present from our friends Karen & Richard which they had given us for our wedding in 2000. It had grown really well in the ground and Sarah said it was best to leave it there rather than risk it not surviving the upheaval of being uprooted!

So for the time being, Smeagol’s acer remains in the pot, but maybe not for long....!

  1. Wow Dave and Sarah, what a beautiful blog balance you have created!-both history and future side by side! It will be lovely to visit your blog after the memories of Mum and Dad have flooded my heart and head.
'Sunlight from the Nilgiris' being the fulfilling main course, makes 'Woven with Gold Strings' the refreshing desert!
I can't believe it's been over a year since Sméagol's passing. I feel honoured to be the first to comment on the 'New Leaves' of Sméagol's acer....which looks to be really beautiful!xx
